Sustained by poverty, homelessness and deprivation

A Poem on Homelessness
By Cercatore a.k.a. Arzoo

Trudging across the snow, slowly dragging her feet
Sometimes zigzagging while half in sleep

Forcing herself to walk, walk, walk, just walk
So that her body may remain slightly warm

A deprived gaze she casts at the cars scooting by
Oh yah! There is home for them, she sighs sadly

Feeling of deprivations gradually wells up within
Silent screams: “take me with you, why not take me with you”

Illogical cries arise incoherently likes waves of a turbulent sea
Only to submerge, in vain, without reaching the “land”

what’s the answer, what’s the answer to cease this pain of “nothingness”
what’s the answer, what’s the answer to cease this pain of “nothingness”

so take the shots, my dear, fill the mind with the shots of cocaine, ecstacy
so take the shots, my dear, fill the mind with amnesia, simple amnesia

so take the shots, huh! take the shots and
fill the mind with the sweet sensation of alcohol

& enter this treacherous cycle of “nothingness” that is sustained
by poverty, homelessness and complete deprivation

Is there a home somewhere?
Is there a home somewhere?

Perhaps, a little home with a fireplace, bedroom
and oh, a cozy kitchen

‘tis only a dream of a lonely traveler, ‘tis only imagination
‘tis unreal
‘tis unreal

So, let’s dream of a happy place
Yes, how long will the shots last, how long will the shots last?

Trudging across the snow
I froze to death

Now, I have a home

I am lucky… I never faced the homelessness of those who have a home
