International Day For the Elimination of Racism

Today – March 21 – is the International Day for the Elimination of Racism. This important day exists to raise-awareness and to promote the elimination of racism.

This specific day is commemorated because on March 21st 1960 in South Africa police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against the apartheid "pass laws". It is tragic events like this that remind people that racism still exists.

It is up to every individual to be aware of and to reject the existence of racism. Let 2010 by a year where people celebrate their differences and embrace diversity. Together let us make racism a thing of the past.
