Campaigning for International Women's Day

By Shakira Abubakar

International Women's Day is a day to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women. March 8 is also a day when non-profit organizations call attention to the struggles of women around the world.

In many parts of the world, women are still significantly poorer than men and have lower social status. But the challenge these women face is a lack of opportunity—not a lack of will.

This month, Continental Rescue Africa is joining women from all over the world to their counterpart in the African continent to launch a project called African Women Coalition (AWC).

Women from all around the world will be working in solidarity with young women in Africa to tackle issues that affect them globally by acting locally.

African Women Coalition will tackle issues such as Gender Based-Violence (Illiteracy, Poverty, Sexual Violence, etc.), Self-image & Self Esteem, and Empowerment.

Of course, interested youth of any ethnic origin are welcome to to become a member. For information, visit www.continentalrescueafrica.com.

This year's International Women's Day theme is Women and Men United to End Violence gainst Women and Girls.

Happy International Womens Day and remember that together, we will be silenced no more!

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter" - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
